Jet Fuel
Jet fuel is a vital part of the US oil industry and global commerce and is the third most important transportation fuel. The US is the world’s largest consumer of jet fuel, consuming around 37% of the global total. The US produces about 1.5–1.75 million barrels of jet fuel per day, which is less than other distillate fuels and gasoline, but is still important for global travel and commerce.
Jet fuel, also known as aviation turbine fuel (ATF), is a type of fuel used in gas-powered aircraft. The two types of jet fuel used in the United States are Jet A and Jet A-1.
Jet A is the standard jet fuel in the U.S. and has been since the 1950s. Jet A has a higher freezing point than Jet-A-1 at -40 °C (-47 °C for Jet-A-1). Jet A has a flash point of 38 °C and an autoignition temperature of 410 °F (210 °C).
Other types are – Jet B, Used primarily for military purposes, Jet B has a freezing point of -60 °C. and Avgas, A specialized fuel for piston-engine aircraft, Avgas is typically high-octane and contains lead.
